Unidentified customers grow Boeing’s 777F order book

Boeing logged firm orders for six additional 777Fs in September 2021, including five from an unidentified customer, according to the planemaker’s latest monthly order and delivery numbers [FATs 006659-6664]. The single 777F order came from FedEx Express, which now has seven unfilled orders on Boeing’s backlog. (Photo/Boeing)[/caption] So far in 2021, Boeing’s backlog shows it has received orders for ten 777Fs from three known customers: five from Silk Way West, four from FedEx, and one from Lufthansa Cargo. Another twenty-six units are on order from one or multiple unidentified customers: six appearing in May, five in July, ten in August, and five in September. FedEx may well account for some of the unidentified backlog. According to its own Q1 stat book, as of Aug. 31, the carrier was “committed to purchase” ten 777Fs, and held options to purchase up to twenty-three additional 777Fs. Since Aug. 31, FedEx has taken delivery of one 777F, leaving its backlog at nine units — higher than what Boeing states. It is unclear whether CMA CGM, which expects to take delivery of two new 777Fs from Boeing next year , is among the undisclosed customers. In any case, with thirty-six 777F orders and potentially more in the remaining three months of the year, 2021 will be one of Boeing’s best years for 777F sales since launching the model in 2005, after 2011’s fifty orders and 2018’s forty-five. By comparison, Boeing received thirteen 777F orders in 2020. As of Sept. 30, Boeing had a total of sixty-five 777Fs on its backlog.
