People: New C-suite appointments in air cargo

Big players in air cargo made key appointments in October. Mouaniss named a director at Etihad Cargo [caption id="attachment_57139058" align="alignright" width="195"] Soufyan Mouaniss[/caption] Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Cargo , the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways , promoted Soufyan Mouaniss to director west cargo commercial last month. He will lead all commercial activity for the carrier in its western region, including Europe and the Americas. Mouaniss joined Etihad Cargo in 2019 as general manager of the Benelux and Nordic region, and most recently was area general manager for North and West Europe, according to a release from Etihad Cargo. “Soufyan … has demonstrated his ability to deliver results, reaching financial targets and spearheading organizational growth in his regions,” Etihad Cargo Vice President for Commercial Tim Isik said in the release. “I am confident Soufyan will thrive in this new position and will play a pivotal role in expanding Etihad Cargo’s reach in the west, which is a key region in the carrier’s ambitious expansion plans.” AIT welcomes Hale, promotes Ambrite [caption id="attachment_57139059" align="alignright" width="167"] Timothy Hale[/caption] Itasca, Ill.-based supply chain solutions company AIT Worldwide Logistics hired Timothy Hale as vice president of global account management, a newly created role. AIT also promoted Aaron Ambrite from senior director of global compliance to vice president of global compliance, a role in which he will oversee and support the company’s compliance and regulatory efforts. Hale will lead the company’s global strategic group, including tender management, global customer account management and implementation management teams, according to an Oct. 17 release from AIT. He will also work to increase the security and efficiency of storing, processing and analyzing large datasets. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Hale has more than 35 years’ experience in the freight forwarding industry, most recently 15 years at DHL Global Forwarding . “Tim and his team are exercising their skills and expertise to ensure we can build … tailored solutions even faster, in part by beginning each project from a common foundation with the most accurate data available,” Bill Fallon , executive vice president of client solutions at AIT, said in an Oct. 17 release. [caption id="attachment_57139044" align="alignright" width="164"] Aaron Ambrite[/caption] Since joining AIT as director of global compliance in 2018, Ambrite has spearheaded regulatory and compliance efforts, according to an Oct. 24 release from AIT. He also works closely with AIT’s legal team in his supporting role as the company’s associate general counsel, the release stated. Ambrite was elected to the Air Forwarders Association (AFA) board of directors in 2020 and was recently appointed vice president of the board. In addition to board duties, he chairs the AFA membership committee and sits on the regulatory compliance committee. “Aaron’s vast experience in supply chain security, risk management and compliance education has been invaluable to AIT,” Ray Fennelly , AIT’s chief information officer, said in the Oct. 24 release. “His leadership in re-engineering our compliance workflows, while staying proactive with teams across the network, has been exemplary.” McDonald new EVP airfreight for the Americas at Schenker [caption id="attachment_57139053" align="alignright" width="232"] John McDonald[/caption] Logistics solutions and supply chain management company DB Schenker recently promoted John McDonald to executive vice president of airfreight for the Americas. McDonald succeeds Christoph Hemmann , who became head of airfreight for the Asia Pacific region, following the retirement of Dirk Noelle , according to a release from Schenker. With more than three decades of experience in the sector, McDonald started at Schenker in May 2020 as senior vice president of airfreight for the United States. He previously served as chief commercial officer at STG Logistics . “John’s vast experience and proven track record in airfreight logistics make him an invaluable asset to our team,” Thorsten Meincke , global board member for air and ocean freight at DB Schenker, said in the release. He praised McDonald’s “dedication to cultivating future leaders and his ability to execute intricate strategies.” Sinclair to head UK industrial projects for Kerry Logistics [caption id="attachment_57139054" align="alignright" width="167"] Keith Sinclair[/caption] Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics Network appointed Keith Sinclair as U.K. industrial projects director to increase its share in the growing United Kingdom energy project market, according to an Oct. 3 release from the company. Sinclair has more than 18 years of experience in global logistics and forwarding, specializing in energy and industrial projects, according to the release. “Keith brings a wealth of industry experience to our team and, with his extensive industry connections in the oil and gas sector, I am confident that he will drive our presence in the developing North Sea energy and renewables market,” Dave Gaughan , managing director of Kerry UK, said in the release. Balkens takes on COO role at Unilode [caption id="attachment_57139052" align="alignright" width="144"] Janis Balkens[/caption] Zurich-based Unilode Aviation Solutions , which provides unit load device (ULD) management, repair and digital services, appointed Janis Balkens as chief operating officer last month. Balkens replaces Babak Yazdani , who is now chief operating officer at reusable container company Ifco Systems . Balkens has more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership, operational and commercial roles in the aviation industry, according to an Oct. 24 release from Unilode. He has experience working with airports, airlines, ground handlers and logistics companies, and was most recently regional chief executive officer for new and emerging markets at dnata . Balkens “is extremely well placed to continue to deliver operational excellence at Unilode, and his operational and commercial expertise with a strong focus on quality and safety will strengthen Unilode’s market leader position in the ULD and galley cart sector,” Unilode CEO Ross Marino said in the release. Davis to manage NEO’s core cargo charter business [caption id="attachment_57139048" align="alignright" width="203"] Brian Davis[/caption] Frankfurt, Germany-based aviation services company NEO Air Group promoted Brian Davis to general manager of its core cargo charter business last month. Davis will head the day-to-day functions of the charter operation and its further development. Davis began working in the aviation industry in 2007 as an air charter broker and joined NEO Air Charter in 2011, the year it was founded, in a similar role, according to a release from NEO. In 2017, he was promoted to commercial manager, heading NEO’s commercial activities. “Brian has been with NEO almost since its beginnings,” NEO co-Chief Executive Adnan Duran said in the release. “His latest promotion reflects and rewards his strong and loyal performance to date, and his massive contribution to NEO’s success.” Kreuziger to head Maersk’s airfreight ops in Europe [caption id="attachment_57139046" align="alignright" width="153"] Annette Kreuziger[/caption] Shipping giant Maersk welcomed Annette Kreuziger as regional head of airfreight for Europe in October. Maersk Air Cargo launched last year, but Maersk has been in the airfreight industry since it acquired carrier Star Air in 1993. Kreuziger spent 17 years at Lufthansa Cargo in several leadership roles. She also worked for Swiss International Airlines for seven years, according to her LinkedIn profile.
