IAI completes major structural mods on A330-300BDSF conversion

IAI continues to make progress with its A330-300BDSF program and last month lowered the prototype aircraft back onto its own landing gear. IAI jacked down the aircraft after completing the major structural modifications involved in the freighter conversion process, including replacing all floor beams with new machined parts and fitting the large cargo door and door surround aerostructure, IAI told Cargo Facts . (Photo/Cargo Facts)[/caption] With the 2014-vintage unit 1574 (ex-Air Europa) now resting on its own weight again, IAI will soon conduct ground and flight tests, and hopes to obtain certification for the A330-300BDSF by the end of the third quarter, it said. Conversion process began in 2024 Unit 1574 has been at IAI’s facility in Tel Aviv (TLV) since early 2024. IAI jacked and shored the aircraft that February before formally starting the conversion process the following September. Then, in the summer of 2025, IAI cut the cargo door opening and installed the door and door surround on the aircraft. The A330-300BDSF program will be IAI’s second major freighter conversion project to be certified in the space of twelve to eighteen months. The FAA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel granted an STC for the company’s 777-300ERSF conversion on Aug. 31, 2025, after launching the program in 2019. The Trent 700-powered unit 1574 belongs to A330-300BDSF launch customer Avolon , which signed a deal with IAI in 2021 for thirty conversion slots. IAI’s A330-300BDSF will join EFW’s A330P2F conversions. The German company obtained an STC from EASA for the A330-300P2F in 2017 and the A330-200P2F in 2018 .
