Amazon buys another A330-300

Amazon continues to grow its Airbus fleet with the acquisition of a 2014-vintage A330-300 as conversion feedstock. The Trent 700-powered aircraft (1546, ex-Philippine Airlines) arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) on Aug. 28 after exiting passenger service in April, according to flight-tracking data. (Courtesy/Amazon)[/caption] Unit 1546 was photographed on Aug. 31 outside the STARCO facility at SHA. Its Philippine livery was partially removed and it wore a new registration that Amazon reserved on March 16, according to the FAA’s registry. This is the second A330 that Amazon has purchased for conversion with EFW. The first was the 2012-vintage unit 1359 (ex-Corsair) that arrived at SHA in October 2025 ahead of conversion. After test flights in May, the freighter was sent to Clark, Philippines (CRK), on Aug. 21. In June, Alaska Airlines said it would expand its CMI operations for Amazon within months. Amazon’s owned A330s will join ten other A330-300 freighters in its fleet that are on lease and in CMI operation with Alaska. Amazon had originally leased the ten units from Altavair but in March, IAT Leasing and Blue Owl Capital purchased them . As Cargo Facts reported in January, the e-commerce giant also is due to take delivery of an A330-300P2F on lease from CAM for the first time. Amazon’s widebody fleet also includes three owned production 767-300Fs and sixty-one converted 767-300 freighters, forty-nine of which are leased and twelve of which the e-tailer owns . The carriers that operate them on Amazon’s behalf are: ABX Air; Air Transport International; 21 Air; and Cargojet. Meanwhile, Amazon’s twenty-eight leased 737-800BCFs are operated on the e-tailer’s behalf by Sun Country Airlines and ASL Airlines Ireland. Amazon is still years away from competing with express and forwarding giants , Airforwarders Association Executive Director Brendan Fried told Cargo Facts in May in response to the launch of the Amazon Supply Chain Services platform. Neither Amazon nor Alaska Airlines could be reached for comment by publication time.
