From the Archives: Heavylift 707-351C

HeavyLift was, in 1989, based at London Stansted and had been established in 1980. It was most famous for making use of the Shorts Belfast, being the sole operator of the giant ex-RAF quad prop. They specialized in outsized and unusual cargo (for which the cavernous Belfast was well-suited) – but the 707 was present mainly for more traditional types of freight.

In 1997, HeavyLift became an early customer for the British Aerospace A300 p2f conversion.

It also had a tie-up with Air Foyle, who helped HeavyLift become a sales agency for Antonov and an operator of the AN-124 (and several other Antonov types) in cooperation with Volga-Dnepr.

HeavyLift in this form ceased operations in 2001, but there are two separate HeavyLifts today, one in Australia and one in Dubai.

We believe this photo was taken at Frankfurt, but it’s unclear. Anybody know where this might have been?
