IAI launches 737-700 P-to-F program

Bedek hangarIsrael Aerospace Industries formally launched  a 737-700 passenger-to-freighter conversion program, to be offered through its MRO and conversion arm, Bedek Aviation Group.

IAI provided little in the way of technical specifications, but did tell Cargo Facts that the 737-700BDSF will offer eight full-size pallet positions plus two smaller positions, and that it expects certification in mid-2016, with redelivery of the first conversion at the end of 2016.

No announcement has been made regarding customers, but Cargo Facts has learned that Bedek has a firm order for three 737-700BDSF conversions plus one option from US-based Alaska Airlines. Alaska currently operates one 737-400F and five 737-400 combis, and will presumably use the 737-700BDSFs to replace some of the combis.
