Supersized aircraft – a history

As we posted last week, Airbus is working on a new version of its well known Beluga — the supersized A300-600 the manufacturer uses to ferry subassemblies from one site to another. But the Beluga, and the 747LCF DreamLifter that Boeing uses for a similar purpose are not the first such freighters.

With most of the US preparing to enjoy a long weekend in celebration of its independence, and much of the rest of the world focusing on the Tour de France (which starts on the Fourth of July — Independence Day in the US), business won’t be on very many minds. So we offer this interesting video history of the supersized freighter concept to get your holiday weekend started.

And for dessert, a short video of the Beluga taking off.
