Grasshopper evaluates Nordic eVTOL deliveries with Jetpak

Spain-based drone developer Grasshopper has signed a memorandum of understanding with Swedish logistics company Jetpak to analyze possible eVTOL operations across the Nordic region. The MoU enables Grasshopper to test its e350 Flying Cargo Van in a live environment . Grasshopper also will work closely with Jetpak to raise money through public funding and collaborate with the Swedish Transport Agency to establish operational guidelines for eVTOL operations, the drone developer told Cargo Facts . (Courtesy/Grasshopper)[/caption] Jetpak is interested in using drones to enhance its charter and scheduled express package delivery operations but has not been able to find a drone that meets its mission requirements, Grasshopper said. The companies will explore ways to implement a service that transports payloads from logistics hubs to package collection points for distribution to businesses and consumers, Grasshopper said. Grasshopper and Jetpak might adopt a combination of drones, droneports and uncrewed ground vehicles instead of just the e350 as they seek to establish drone solutions and infrastructure for commercial use in Sweden in the 2030s, the drone developer said. Grasshopper’s e350 Flying Cargo Van eVTOL is designed to carry a one-pallet payload of up to 350 kilograms over 200 kilometers. The range increases to 600 km under hybrid hydrogen-electric propulsion. The autonomous eVTOL will be capable of folding its wings upon landing and taxiing to its customized charging and loading station. Grasshopper hopes to complete its proof of concept for the e350 by August before beginning test flights with Spain-based BCN Drone Center in isolated and regulated airspace, Grasshopper said. The drone developer hopes to raise about $4.9 million by December, it said.
