Volga-Dnepr forms cargo partnership with Sheremetyevo Airport

ABC 747-8FIn a bid to strengthen their long-standing cooperation, Volga-Dnepr Group and Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) have signed a joint agreement to facilitate the development of modern cargo infrastructure at the airport and to encourage greater airfreight business throughout Russia.

Under the agreement, the air carriers and SVO will cooperate to a greater extent with other international airports to increase cargo flows and share ideas about methods to implement future airfreight projects.

The partnership, said Michael Vasilenko, director general of Sheremetyevo, will take a “systematic approach towards enhancement of cargo infrastructure” that will embrace “not only the quantitative side, where Volga-Dnepr Group guarantees an agreed-upon volume of transit, transfer and import-export cargo flows, but the qualitative side, as well, with the building of an up-to-date hangar complex.”

These upgrades, he added, will involve maintenance and repair services, expansion of cargo facilities to encompass the handling of “special commodities” and the provision of all necessary resources.

“Both Volga-Dnepr Group and Sheremetyevo airport are strategically oriented towards development of a modern international level air cargo hub at the premises of Sheremetyevo airport,” said Sergey Lazarev, director general of Volga-Dnepr’s AirBridgeCargo Airlines. “All the agreements and mutual obligations reached in this agreement are particularly intended to guarantee a high quality level of air cargo services for our customers.”
