MD Logistics to double pharma storage capacity

Business is booming at Indiana-based 3PL firm MD Logistics, which has begun a US$2.5 million project to add a 173,000-square-foot expansion to its pharmaceutical storage facility and upgrade its existing cold storage facility to keep up with the strong demand for pharma and medical device services.

The controlled-room-temperature structure will be located near the company’s flagship Indianapolis facility. Meanwhile, at a cost of $1.5 million, the company plans to add 20,000 square feet to the cold storage warehouse, which can maintain temperatures in the range of 2 to 8 °C. The additions will effectively double MD’s temperature-controlled capacity.

One reason for the demand is the location: The state of Indiana is home to about 850 life-science companies, which add $59 million to the state’s economy and represent the second-highest concentration of biopharmaceutical jobs in the country, according to The Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Earlier this year, MD Logistics had expanded a temperature-controlled warehouse in Reno, Nev., facility and added cold-chain capabilities for pharma products.
