Abu Dhabi-based MAXIMUS AIR CARGO said it had agreed to purchase three A300-600 aircraft from JAPAN AIRLINES and have them converted to freighter configuration at EADS EFW’s Dresden facility. The carrier’s CEO Fathi Buhazza was quoted as saying the total cost of the deal (including conversions) was US$95.3 million. Maximus, which reported revenue up 16% in 2010 to US$117.1 million, currently operates eight freighters: Two A300-600Fs (ACMI leased to ETIHAD AIRWAYS), three Il-76TDs, two Lockheed Hercules, and one An-124 (all used for charter operations). The freighter-converted ex-JAL aircraft are scheduled to enter Maximus’ fleet in July, September, and November of this year. Mr. Buhazza said Maximus intended to use them in ACMI service, and that he intended to offer them to Etihad before looking elsewhere.
