The Civil Aviation Administration of China has issued Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI) a Supplemental Type Certificate for its 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversion program, the 737-800SF, AEI announced yesterday.
The STC validates the original FAA-issued STC, which was awarded to AEI at the beginning of 2019. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency, meanwhile, has yet to issue an STC. AEI is working with EASA and expects an STC imminently.
Ethiopian Airlines took redelivery of the first two 737-800SFs following their conversion to freighter configuration by AEI last year.
AEI is forecasting that roughly 750 737-800s will be converted in the next forty-plus years, with AEI capturing more than 400 of those conversions. The company says it has already secured 111 orders and commitments for the program.
Since AEI was founded in 1958, the company has developed more than 120 STCs and redelivered more than 400 freighter-converted aircraft. AEI’s other active conversion programs cover CRJ200, 737 Classics, and MD-80 series airframes.
