Time-critical cargo charter helps keep airline flying

As a leading aircraft charter broker we work with airline suppliers around the world on a daily basis and many of them also call on our specialist air charter services when experiencing technical problems.

Our cargo charter team regularly provides fast, effective solutions to AOG (aircraft on ground) situations to help keep airlines flying with minimal disruption.

A recent example of this was an operation to help deliver three tires for an MD-11 freighter aircraft grounded at Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport in Namibia.

Unable to perform its scheduled flight to Spain without new tires – and with none available locally – the airline contacted us to help deliver spares from Helsinki in Finland.

The replacements were flown from Helsinki to Johannesburg via Frankfurt on scheduled services – before connecting with a chartered aircraft for the final time-critical leg.

Heinz Lange from Chapman Freeborn’s Johannesburg team oversaw the whole operation and sourced an Embraer EMB-110P twin-turboprop aircraft for the charter, as well as rapidly securing traffic rights and permits for the flight.

Customs clearance was achieved within two hours of the cargo arriving in Johannesburg and the chartered aircraft was loaded and dispatched shortly after.

With the spare tires successfully delivered to Windhoek, the AOG aircraft was back in the air with a minimal 12 hour interruption and performed its flight to Spain with a consignment of over 60 tons of cargo.

All of this was made possible by our local market knowledge and the good solid relationships we have with our operators on the ground.
