Atlas Air put a second 747-8F into ACMI service for Qantas Freight [FAT 004829]. The aircraft is unit 37566, one of the two 747-8Fs that we predicted would operate for the Australian carrier, joining unit 37561.

Unit 37566 positioned to New York (JFK) from Miami (MIA) on Aug, 28 and today started flying to Sydney (SYD) via Chicago (ORD) and Honolulu (HNL). This 747-8F replaces unit 30588, an Atlas-operated 747-400F which ended its service for Qantas when it arrived in JFK from SYD via Bangkok (BKK), Shanghai (PVG) and Anchorage (ANC) [FAT 05111].

Unit 37566 was delivered to Atlas Air in 2013.

For more on this story, see our post earlier this week on Qantas’ first 747-8F.
