7 carriers take first 737-800Fs in H1 2023

The 737-800 freighter platform continues to expand globally as more carriers initiate fleet modernizations with the Boeing narrowbody. Here are the carriers that have taken delivery of or placed into service their first 737-800 freighters in the first half of the year: [caption id="attachment_56864423" align="alignright" width="450"] Egyptair has one 737-800SF. (Photo/Egyptair)[/caption] Africa Democratic Republic of Congo-based Serve Air Cargo became the seventh African operator to add the 737-800F to its fleet when it the 2002-vintage unit 30516 (ex-Air China) in June from China Aircraft Leasing Co. Unit 30516 arrived in Kinshasa (FIH) on June 4 and is now the youngest freighter in the Serve Air Cargo fleet. Egyptair entered the narrowbody freighter market when it took redelivery of its first 737-800SF . The 2007-vintage aircraft (35560), which previously flew in the airline's passenger fleet, arrived in Cairo on Feb. 4 after undergoing conversion with Aeronautical Engineers Inc. at its commercial jet facility in Miami (MIA). Americas Phoenix-based Mesa Airlines expanded its CMI relationship with DHL Express by taking its first 737-800BDSF and flying it in the United States on behalf of the integrator. The 2001-vintage unit 28326 (ex-Scandinavian Airlines) completed conversion in late 2022 and adds to three 737-400SFs Mesa flies for DHL. Argentina-based Aerolineas Argentinas officially entered the new-generation freighter market in May with the first of two 737-800SFs it agreed to lease from Macquarie AirFinance, becoming the first carrier in the region to operate the AEI freighter type. Aerolineas Argentinas in December announced an agreement with Argentina-based logistics company Mirgor to provide air freight service. In addition to producing automotive and electronic components, Mirgor also exports agricultural goods, supported by its own logistics business. Asia Pacific Thailand-based startup carrier Budget Lines has signed an agreement with Singapore-based logistics company Bluorbit to offer air cargo service with a 2003-vintage 737-800BCF (33551, ex-Ryanair) leased from BBAM. Unit 33551 was spotted in April in the airline’s livery, which promoted the customized branding of Budget Lines and Bluorbit. Budget Lines told Cargo Facts in April that it expected to begin operations in June and provide service from Bangkok (BKK) to Hanoi (HAN), Singapore (SIN), Delhi (DEL), Chennai (MAA) and Hong Kong (HKG), although unit 33551 does not appear to have started flying. In New Zealand, Bahrain-based Chisholm Enterprises’ newly formed subsidiary, Texel Air Australasia, in May took delivery of its first 737-800BCF . The 2001-vintage unit 29985 (ex-Korean Air) arrived in Hamilton (HLZ), New Zealand, on May 22 as the new operator finalized its certification requirements. Unit 29985 became the first 737-800F to join Bahrain-based Texel Air in December 2021 and was replaced by a 737-800BCF (33804, ex-Ryanair) the carrier leased from BBAM.
