Yesterday, Air Canada Cargo announced it will end its operations at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) as of July 30.

The carrier said it will continue to operate into and from both JFK Airport and Newark Airport (EWR). “Between those two stations, we provide convenient transportation by truck and widebody aircraft to connect to the rest of our worldwide network,” Air Canada said.

According to a statement from Vito Cerone, Air Canada Cargo’s managing director for sales and commercial strategy, the carrier’s cargo traffic increased by 7% domestically and 8% internationally from 2017 to 2018, in revenue ton miles. Statistics from IATA put Air Canada’s 2018 cargo traffic at 2.64 billion freight tonne kilometers (FTKs).

Meanwhile, LGA’s 2018 cargo handle fell by 12.8%, y-o-y, in 2018. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported total freight tonnage of 5,996 short tons (about 5,439 metric tonnes). Its mail traffic, however, was up 88% to 4,408 tonnes during 2018.
