Alaska Airlines takes 1st 737-800BCF

Seattle-based Alaska Airlines has expanded its 737NG freighter fleet with the delivery of its first 737-800BCF. The fully converted, 2007-vintage 737-800BCF (35682) departed the COOPESA MRO facility in San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO), today on the way to Alaska’s maintenance base in Oklahoma City (OKC) [ FATs 9122-9123 ]. With the redelivery of unit 35682, Alaska Airlines is set to have both 737-800BCFs enter service by early 2024 after initially revealing plans in March 2022 to add 737-800 freighters to its fleet. The -800BCFs join Alaska’s three IAI-converted 737-700BDSFs . The airline is the third 737-800BCF operator in the United States after Sun Country Airlines and Atlas Air. As one of the largest 737-800BCF customers, BBAM took redelivery of one aircraft (33566, ex-Ryanair) and placed it on lease to Brazil-based Modern Logistics earlier this month and another to TAAG Angola Airlines in September. In addition to Alaska, BBAM has four 737-800BCFs in North America. All four are with Canada-based WestJet, which took its fourth unit (35502) in September. BBAM holds conversion slots with Boeing for up to forty 737-800BCFs after adding nine more to its orderbook at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2022.
