American Airlines launches new Dallas-Madrid 787-9 service

American Airlines announced the launch of a new 787-9 service between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Madrid Barajas (MAD) in Spain. The widebody jet provides capacity for up to 36 LD3 positions, or 12 pallets.

The 787-9 is also currently operating from DFW to São Paulo (GRU), with plans to tack on the DFW-Paris (CDG) route in January 2017. A month later, the new 787-9 will also start flying between DFW and Incheon (ICN).

“The introduction of the 787-9 brings another more fuel-efficient aircraft type with even greater cargo capacity into the American Airlines fleet,” stated David Vance, American’s vice president of cargo operations. “On routes where we operate the aircraft, our cargo customers will see notable capacity improvements,” he said, adding that there has been long-term demand for increased space on the U.S.-to-Spain route.

American also said it expects to have four new 787-9s flying within its network by the end of 2017.
