Atlas Air, a subsidiary carrier of US-based Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, will operate a 747-400F (36134) for Japan-based Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), beginning January 2017 [FATs 003591 – 3592]. The companies said the agreement offered “an opportunity for additional aircraft in the future.”
Atlas said it would fly the freighter on trans-Pacific routes, connecting the US with Asia, but at least one flight-tracking service shows it being flown from Memphis (MEM) to London (STN) and San Juan (SJU) with FedEx codes.
Following the transfer of this freighter to Atlas, NCA will operate eight 747-8Fs and four 747-400Fs, with two more -8Fs on firm order with Boeing.
