Today, British networks solutions provider Bridges Worldwide launched a new intra-European route linking Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) with Malta and Larnaca, Cyprus.

The new route has five flights per week and will be flown by a 737-400F owned by Spanish cargo specialist Swiftair, with cargo capacity of 20 tonnes per flight. The route is the first to offer direct maindeck capacity for Cyprus’s booming fish and perishable exports industry to Western Europe.

With the end of this year’s third quarter, CGN’s throughput of goods and handled cargo reached 870,000 tonnes, resulting in a 4 percent year-over-year increase from 2017.

Cologne Airport is also home to UPS, which has a facility measuring more than 600,000 square feet, with a capacity to air sort 190,000 packages and documents per hour. UPS controls 64 aircraft parking positions over a ramp size of 18.7 acres and operates an average of 76 flights daily from the airport.

Based in Hong Kong, Bridges Worldwide provides neutral network services to the international courier and express community. Amongst global airlines and regional specialists, Bridges partners regularly with Air Malta, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, KLM/Air France Singapore Airlines, South African Airways and Thai Airways, and is also developing relationships with Etihad and Jet Airways. The company utilizes both scheduled commercial airlines and their own regional freighter network to operate more than 1,000 flights per week for clients such as DHL, FedEx, TNT and UPS.
