Cargolux Airlines added Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, to its network last week. The once-weekly service comes about a year after the all-cargo airline started flights to Turkmenbashi. Now, Cargolux services the country with eight flights per week, and plans to boost its weekly frequencies to 11 later this month.
In addition to Ashgabat, Cargolux’s other destinations in Central Asia include Baku, Turkmenbashi, Novosibirsk, Almaty and Tbilisi. The airline has benefitted from regional growth, and its expanding network signals confidence in the long-term prospects there.
Ashgabat is constructing a new airport, scheduled to open this September. The airport has a modern cargo center that became operational earlier this month. Cargolux also cooperates with Turkmenistan Airlines to increase the reach of both carriers. This strategy helps the Luxembourg-based airline serve surrounding markets such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
