Castlelake nears first A321P2F induction for IndiGo

U.S.-based Castlelake has sent what will be its first A321 freighter to Singapore ahead of its induction for conversion with Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW). The aircraft (3267, ex-Avion Express), a 2007-vintage aircraft with CFM56-5B engines, will be joining IndiGo as the India-based carrier’s first freighter. (Photo/Avion Express)[/caption] IndiGo confirmed to Cargo Facts that it expects the aircraft, which arrived Sunday at the ST Engineering facilities in Singapore (XSP), to begin conversion in December and to have it join the fleet around the middle of next year [FATs 006912-6916]. IndiGo told Cargo Facts that it preferred to have its A321-200P2Fs with CFM56 engines to be more in line with its newer A320neos and A321neos, which have CFM LEAP-1A engines. The airline also has A320s with IAE V2500 engines, and A320neos and A321neos with Pratt & Whitney PW1100Gs. IndiGo told Cargo Facts earlier this year that it would lease an initial two A321P2Fs but declined to identify the lessor or the aircraft at the time, only saying that the units were both under fifteen years old. Avion Express has a second 2007-vintage A321-200 (3334), also on lease from Castlelake. Castlelake, which could not be reached for comment, recently completed a sale and leaseback transaction with Avianca for A330-200Fs. Apart from Castlelake, other lessors that have sent A321s for freighter conversion this year for the first time include Cross Ocean Partners and GTLK Europe for SmartLynx; Greenwich Highland Aviation for Global Crossing Airlines ; and Cargo Aircraft Management .
