DHL, Texel freighters leave Bahrain

At least seven freighters stranded in Bahrain took off for the first time since Feb. 28 as part of the government’s move to reposition aircraft out of the country amid the Iran war. The freighters left in quick succession the evening of March 10, and were operated by Bahrain-based DHL International and Texel Air, and Germany-based AeroLogic and EAT Leipzig: Two DHL International 767-300BDSFs (29603 and 33086) flew to the DHL hub in Leipzig, Germany (LEJ); One DHL International 767-300BCF (33083) also flew to LEJ; Two Texel Air 737-800BCFs (29374 and 30672) flew to Muscat, Oman (MCT); One AeroLogic 777F (36002) flew to LEJ; and One EAT Leipzig A330-200F (1772) also flew to LEJ. (Courtesy/Bahrain International Airshow)[/caption] Texel Air also has two 737-700FCs (30293 and 34170) but their status is unclear because they are not publicly trackable. DHL International and Texel Air both declined to comment. Meanwhile, freighters operated by the two Bahrain-based carriers that were outside the country when its airspace closed on Feb. 28 have gradually resumed flying over the past several days on routes not touching BAH: A DHL International 767-300BDSF (33089) that had been in Milan (MXP) flew to LEJ on March 4 and has been operating to and from Oslo (OSL) since then; A DHL International 767-300BDSF (33087) that had been on the ground at MCT began flying on March 6 and has been to Lahore (LHE), Riyadh (RUH) and Hong Kong (HKG) since then; A DHL International 767-300BCF (33082) that had been on the ground in Bengaluru (BLR) flew to HKG March 10, then to MCT today; A DHL International 767-300BDSF (33081) that had been on the ground at HKG flew to MCT on March 10; A DHL International 767-300BDSF (33085) that had been on the ground in Nairobi (NBO) flew to HKG on March 10 and to RUH and MCT today; and A Texel Air 737-800BCF (33804) that had been on the ground in Dubai (DXB) flew to MCT on March 9. DHL International still has a 767-300BDSF (29606) in Kuwait (KWI) that landed there on Feb. 28 and a 767-300BCF (33088) that has been at HKG since Feb. 20, likely for maintenance. Bahrain’s Civil Aviation Affairs division coordinated the move of the freighters, along with several passenger aircraft operated by national carrier Gulf Air, to alternative airports in accordance with safety procedures to ensure continuity of operations during the war, it announced yesterday. While Qatar’s airspace is also mostly closed, the United Arab Emirates has partially reopened its airspace, with combination carriers Emirates and Etihad now operating all of their seventeen combined 777Fs.
