Emirates boosts APAC capacity with new 777F

Dubai-based Emirates SkyCargo plans to increase capacity into China with four additional weekly flights using its new 777F aircraft starting this week. In total, Emirates will operate six direct flights from Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) to Shanghai (PVG), as well as two flights to Beijing (PEK) and four into Guangzhou (CAN), adding more than 400 tonnes of cargo capacity, according to Tuesday’s release. The carrier also plans to increase direct flight frequencies to Hanoi (HAN) and Sydney (SYD) from DWC, an Emirates spokesperson told Air Cargo World . [caption id="attachment_57065857" align="alignright" width="412"] Photo/Emirates SkyCargo[/caption] “A firm start date for HAN and SYD has yet to be set because Emirates SkyCargo is still evaluating the fleet schedules and frequencies,” the spokesperson said. “However, a fourth freighter already services SYD on an ad-hoc basis.” A multi-stop freighter route from DWC to Eldoret International Airport (EDL) in Kenya is starting in August using a 777F aircraft, the spokesperson added. From EDL, the route connects to Nairobi (NBO), Maastricht (MST) in the Netherlands and then to Zaragoza (ZAZ), Spain before returning to DWC. The route typically transports a variety of cargo, including flowers, textiles and pharma, according to the release. In FY2022, Emirates transported 2.1 million tonnes of cargo , up roughly 14% year over year. Approximately 260,000 tonnes were perishable shipments, according to the release. The carrier also reactivated its SkyCentral freighter hub at DWC in late March after initially consolidating its freighter and passenger operations in April 2020 at Dubai International Airport (DXB). SkyCentral DWC offers 1 million tonnes of capacity per year. Despite the new addition, Emirates fleet remains at 11 777Fs as an A6-EFG aircraft was returned to its lessor last week, according to the release. Emirates also plans to further increase capacity by converting 10 passenger 777s into freighters . The carrier aims to be operating 21 freighters by the end of 2026. Emirates ranked No. 5 in Air Cargo World ’s most recent Freight 50 ranking of the world’s top cargo carriers, based on 2020 tonnage.
