Longtail Aviation re-enters freighter market with 767F

Bermuda-based Longtail Aviation is making a return to flying its own freighters and soon will begin 767-200F operations. Longtail is in the final stage of certification with the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority and expects to place the 1982-vintage 767-200BDSF (22216) into commercial service shortly, having completed a proving flight last week, Chief Executive Anatoly Galunov told Cargo Facts . (Courtesy/Longtail Aviation)[/caption] Unit 22216, which Amerijet returned to CAM in 2023, has been in Miami (MIA) since April 2025. It carried out the proving flight on June 24. Longtail does not own the aircraft but has a partnership with the unidentified legal owner, Galunov said. “We plan to launch operations with our own cargo programs and customer base,” he said. “As we introduce our second Boeing 767 into the fleet, we’ll also be well-positioned to offer ACMI and charter services, giving us the flexibility to support a broader range of customer requirements.” The second aircraft should arrive in forty-five to sixty days. Longtail’s goal is to continue expanding its freighter fleet in line with market demand and its operational growth strategy, Galunov said. The 767 platform marks Longtail’s first time in the medium-widebody freighter segment. The carrier entered the freighter market at the height of the pandemic in 2020 by leasing a production 747-400F (27503). Over the next two years, it added two 747-400BCFs (24975 and 25152) and three other 747-400s that it flew in cargo-only configuration . By late 2022, Longtail had stopped flying the 747s, but was preparing to start operations with a 1991-vintage 757-200PCF (25042) and told Cargo Facts at the time that it was also planning to add a 767 freighter. The carrier did not fly the 757 or add the 767 until now. “We selected the 767 because it offers an excellent balance of payload, range, operating economics and fleet availability,” Galunov said. “It’s a proven freighter platform and a great fit for the markets we intend to serve.” Cargo Facts believes unit 22216 could be the first 767-200 to enter the Bermuda aircraft registry. The Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority could not be reached for comment.
