Mining, port activity prompts Cargolux to add stops in Africa

In a bid to increase its presence in the Central African region, Cargolux Airlines will add stops in Douala in Cameroon, and Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Services to Lubumbashi will begin on Sept. 15; Douala starts Oct. 3. The two additional cities both add stops to existing flights.

Flights to Lubumbashi, the center of mining activity in the DRC, leave Luxembourg every Friday evening, arriving in the DRC on Saturday mornings at 05:25. The return flight is routed via Johannesburg, Nairobi and Stansted, in the U.K.

The Douala services add Central Africa’s largest port to Cargolux’s network. Flights depart from Luxembourg every Wednesday at 16:15 and are routed via Bamako. They arrive in Cameroon on Thursdays at 01:55.

Once under way, Douala and Lubumbashi will increase Cargolux’s destinations on the African continent to 35. “Africa has always been and will always be an important market for Cargolux,” said Jonathan Clark, Cargolux regional director for Africa.
