At least nine more 737-800BCFs are on their way to join Amazon Air, Cargo Facts has discovered. The e-tailer has already added to its fleet four 737s since late April.
Sun Country Airlines is committed to operating six more 737-800BCFs on a CMI basis for Amazon, which is leasing them from GECAS. But beyond those six, no other CMI contracts have been firmed. The units in conversion beyond those six indicate an additional CMI deal nears.
Here are the 737-800s that were assigned registrations consistent with other Amazon aircraft over the past month:
The 737s currently operated by Sun Country began making their way from China to the U.S. in March. Southern Air also operates five 737-800BCFs on a CMI basis for Amazon, under a deal signed in 2019. All five, also leased from GECAS, had entered service by the end of the year.
The following nine 737-800BCFs are in service for Amazon:
Although Amazon has the option to hand over up to fifteen more 737-800Fs to Southern Air, assuming it also ups its firm commitment for additional aircraft from GECAS, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the e-tailer place more with Sun Country or with another operator entirely, as DHL recently did with iAero Airways.
