New customer for Cathay’s Hong Kong cargo terminal

Cathay Pacific Services awarded AirAsia cargo handling contract.

Malaysia-based AirAsia appointed Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL) as handling agent for AirAsia’s cargo operations and documentation in Hong Kong.

CPSL manages the new Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, which went into operation last year. Operation launch was gradual, with cargo carried by Cathay Pacific Airways and subsidiary Dragonair moved from Hactl to the new facility in stages. In October 2013 the transition of Cathay/Dragonair cargo was complete, and CPSL began looking for other airline customers, with AirAsia one of the first to sign up.

“Cargo is one of the important revenue streams for AirAsia and it is crucial to have a partner which adds more value to our services. What we do is challenge the conventional perception that Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) are unsuitable for cargo, due to the quick turnaround time. With CPSL on board, we look forward to quashing that perception further and changing the face of the cargo industry,” said Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia.
