As regular readers of this website know, Cargo Facts has for some time been a supporter of Airlink, the rapid-response humanitarian relief organization that links airlines with prequalified nonprofits. Today, as much of the world begins the holiday season, we encourage you, at either the individual or corporate level, to participate in Airlink’s “Year-End Giving Challenge.”
Here’s the deal: Three aviation industry leaders have generously agreed to match, dollar for dollar, all monetary donations up to $40,000—for a total of $80,000 in giving! If you join them in doubling Airlink’s impact this holiday season, you will help increase efficiency and effectiveness of disaster response worldwide. The three leaders are Dave Barger, former CEO, JetBlue; Klaus Heinemann, Director, Finnair: and Steve Rimmer, CEO, Guggenheim Aviation Partners.
Joining them in their support of Airlink is easy: simply click here, and you’ll go straight to the Year-End Giving Challenge site.
For those of you who are not familiar with Airlink, here is a bit of background: Since its inception in 2010, Airlink has worked with its airline partners to respond to a number of rapid-onset disasters, including the earthquake in Haiti, the tsunami in Japan, Hurricane Sandy and numerous tornadoes in the US, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and the Ebola crisis in West Africa. In addition, Airlink’s airline partners have assisted many organizations in addressing ongoing issues in the developing world, such as access to clean water, food, shelter, medical aid, and education. Airlink and its airline partners have transported over 3,600 passengers and more than 2,500,000 pounds of cargo in support of a broad range of humanitarian initiatives. Airlink estimates the value of these movements at more than USD $3,800,000. For more information, visit the Airlink website.
