DHL to break ground on ‘8-figure’ freight facility near Hanover Airport

European road-freight service provider DHL Freight is making “an eight-figure investment” in a new 7,800-square-meter freight hub at the Hanover Airport Business Park in Langenhagen, Germany. DHL Freight expects its investment to translate into improvements in LTL (less-than-truckload) and FTL (full-truck-load) transport. Groundbreaking is scheduled for the beginning of 2018.

The investment is part of DHL’s broader “Freight 2020” program, which focusses on “what has made us successful” – in this case, freight. “The new freight center in Langenhagen, near Hanover, represents an important step forward in this regard,” said Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight.

Situated near Hanover Airport, on 63,000 square meters of land, the site was chosen for its transport connections for both long-haul and short-haul transport. With 80 loading bays, the new trans-shipment terminal will provide sufficient capacity to process in excess of 600,000 tons of LTL cargo per annum.

Once operational, the two existing Hanover sites (Stelingerstrasse and Büttnerstrasse) will be consolidated into operations at the new location.
