One of the most recognizable faces of the airfreight industry, Doug Brittin, has said he will retire at the end of this year from The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), where he has held the post as Secretary General since 2013. Sebastiaan Scholte of Jan de Rijk Logistics has been tapped to lead a selection committee to find a replacement for Brittin.

Brittin, who replaced former Secretary General Daniel Fernandez after his sudden departure, will stay on board in an advisory capacity once the new Secretary General has been appointed. In the meantime, “It is business as usual,” said TIACA Chairman Sanjiv Edward.

During Brittin’s tenure, TIACA has focused heavily on security, overseeing the development of the Certified Cargo Screening Program, as well as policy, screening technology development and forwarder programs. Brittin also worked closely with the association before joining. In 2007, he joined the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as Air Cargo Manager.

He eventually became division director for Air Cargo at TSA’s Arlington headquarters in Virginia. In that capacity, Brittin oversaw all-cargo carrier programs, risk-based security programs, and financial matters for the division.

With more than 36 years in the transportation business, Brittin held executive-level positions in sales, marketing and operations, with leading companies such as BAX Global, Panalpina, Emery and Menlo Worldwide. He also has experience of the rail and trucking sectors.
