GA Telesis to further grow 737-800SF portfolio

Florida-headquartered GA Telesis has followed its entry into the 737NG conversion market with a top-up order for four more 737-800SF conversions with Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI), with three slots confirmed for the second half of 2021, and the fourth early next year [FATs 006123-6126]. GA Telesis told Cargo Facts that its marketing efforts have generated “a good response” from operators and that it is seeing “compelling near-term opportunities,” but did not say whether it has secured any customer commitments for the upcoming freighters. (Photo/GA Telesis)[/caption] When GA Telesis announced its initial conversion order with AEI last July, it told Cargo Facts it had mostly made that decision prior to the pandemic. The lessor later exercised an option for a second 737-800SF conversion in September 2020. The Commercial Jet facility in Dothan (DHN) will provide touch labor for all four conversions. GA Telesis could not identify specific frames at this stage, but said it is looking at 737-800 candidates between sixteen and twenty years old. The lessor also said that it currently does not have any passenger 737-800s in storage. GA Telesis recently took redelivery of its first 737-800SF (32903, ex-Pegasus) under last year’s order and leased it to Ethiopian Airlines ; the second (28826, ex-Blue Air) will complete conversion in May and may also join the African carrier’s fleet. Both 737s went to the Commercial Jet facility in Miami (MIA) for conversion. GA Telesis’ Leasing, Investments, Finance & Trading Group said in a release that it will “continue to evaluate additional 737SF slots and other freighter aircraft models” to support the global air cargo industry. Earlier this year, Cargo Facts reported Vx Capital’s and AviaAM Leasing’s forays into 737-800F conversions, while other lessors that have announced 737-800F conversion orders so far this year include BBAM, Aero Capital Solutions, KF Aerospace, Macquarie AirFinance and BlackRock.
