Icelease places first Boeing 767-300BCF conversion order

Icelandic lessor Icelease has placed its first conversion order for a 767-300BCF from Boeing. The order, signed at Cargo Facts Symposium two weeks ago, includes options for two additional 767-300BCFs, all to take place at the ST Engineering facility in Singapore, according to a Nov. 2 release from Boeing. (Courtesy/AAT)[/caption] The first unit will be inducted in the first quarter of 2027 for redelivery in the second quarter of that year, Boeing said in the release. While the global medium-widebody freighter fleet is roughly evenly split between production and converted freighters today, the share of converted freighters is projected to increase until a next-generation production freighter is available in the segment, a Boeing spokesperson told Cargo Facts . Boeing has received more than 115 orders and commitments for 767-300BCF conversions, with 102 redeliveries as of June 30, the spokesperson said. In its Commercial Market Outlook for 2026-2045 the aircraft manufacturer said it expects the market to require an additional 2,930 freighters in the next 20 years, including approximately 930 new-production freighters and about 2,000 converted freighters. Of the 2,930 additions, about 915 will be medium-widebody freighters like the 767-300BCF, the Boeing spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Airbus in its global cargo market forecast released at Cargo Facts Symposium called for the entry of 2,670 freighters into service through 2045. Of those, 860 will be medium widebodies, it said. Cargo Facts Consulting’s forecast was lower for that segment , calling for 759 to enter the market through 2045. Ice leases Icelease, which declined to comment, has ordered eleven 737-800BCF conversions from Boeing since 2021, according to the release. The lessor has converted seven so far and leased them to customers including: Panama’s Copa Airlines (the 2007-vintage unit 29660); ASL Airlines (the 2001-vintage unit 30879); and Tianjin Air Cargo (2006-vintage unit 34707). The lessor in 2023 together with investment company Inverse Holdings launched joint venture IAT Leasing , which plans to allocate “serious resources” to the widebody-freighter market, Icelease Chief Executive and founding partner Martin Browne told Cargo Facts earlier this year. IAT Leasing also manages the leases on seven 737-800BCFs transferred from Icelease and owned by funds managed by Corrum Capital. 767-300 freighter transactions There have been several significant transactions involving different versions of the 767-300 freighter this year: The Georgia-based 767 freighter fleet grew to ten in October with the arrival of Georgian Airlines’ fourth 767 freighter; UPS in February took delivery of a new 767-300F (67984), bringing its 767 freighter fleet to 100 units; FedEx in May took its final 767-300F (67549) from Boeing , completing its order for 150 of the type; and In June, Uganda Airlines signed a ten-aircraft deal with Boeing that included one 767-300BCF and one 737-800BCF, while Amazon’s first production 767-300F (67027) began service with ABX Air.
