Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL), the largest handler at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG), is set to begin a trial of its new center for cross-border e-commerce handling later this month. Trial operations are expected to begin on Dec. 16, according to the handler’s website.

The new handling center facility measures about 3,000 square meters and includes four automated sorting lines and systems for smart cargo inspection and sorting, as well as CCTV monitoring for information management. According to PACTL, the handling center’s space will primarily be devoted to truck unloading, cargo buffering, sorting, unpacking, customs inspection, customs withholding and cargo handling. Initially, services at the center will include cargo operation and customs withholding storage.

While some e-commerce logistics services are focusing on smaller customers, PACTL’s new center appears to cater to larger corporate customers. According to PACTL’s website, the center only accepts monthly statement customers. PACTL noted that logistics companies that also function as express operators should open an account on the Shanghai Cross-border E-commerce Public Service Platform and sign a corresponding service agreement with PACTL.

The center is located at PACTL West, established jointly in 2008 by PACTL with 56% ownership in the terminal, Air China with 39% ownership, and SHK Beijing Logistics Development Ltd. with 5% ownership.
