KF Cargo begins South American charter service via Miami

KF_Cargo_InuaguralKF Cargo, the airfreight subsidiary of Canada-based KF Aerospace, has begun charter service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to South America. The first flight of KF Cargo’s MD-11 aircraft to MIA, on April 15, brought thousands of cut flowers to the North American market in advance of the coming Mother’s Day demand spike in early May.

With the KF Cargo service, MIA now serves 41 all-cargo airlines, said Emilio T. González, aviation director for the airport. MIA, he added, is “the busiest U.S. airport for international freight” and continues to attract new cargo carriers due to its extensive route network.

KF Cargo’s privately owned parent company, KF Aerospace, is based in Western Canada’s Okanagan Valley. With about 1,000 employees in locations across Canada, the company provides air cargo operations, aircraft leasing services, heavy maintenance and modifications, and pilot training.

The carrier was known as Kelowna Flightcraft until 2015, following the loss of a billion-dollar service contract to deliver for Purolater Courier and Canada Post, and subsequent downsizing. That contract was taken over by Mississauga-based Cargojet.
