SolitAir flies to third Chinese destination from UAE

United Arab Emirates-based SolitAir this month began flying from its hub in Dubai to Jinan Yaoquiang International Airport in northeastern China, its third destination in the country. The flight was operated July 1 by SolitAir’s 2005-vintage 737-800BCF (33023) via Dhaka, Bangladesh (DAC), and marked the first Chinese route launched by the carrier this year. (Courtesy/Hactl)[/caption] The route was designed with high-value and time-critical cargo in mind, the carrier said in a release this month. Cargo moving between Dubai World Central (DWC) and China is highly diverse, a spokesperson for DWC told Cargo Facts . Inbound flights from China carry goods including consumer electronics, e-commerce, automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, textiles and batteries. Cargo from DWC to China includes oil equipment, aerospace components, perishables, luxury retail goods and cargo supporting infrastructure developments, the spokesperson said. SolitAir flew from DWC to Urumqi (URC) and Hong Kong (HKG) for the first time last year. “Looking ahead, greater freighter connectivity with central and Eastern Europe, Africa and south and Southeast Asia would help meet growing demand across manufacturing, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals and other high-value cargo sectors,” Robert Whitehouse, vice president of research at Dubai Airports, which operates DWC, told Cargo Facts . Unit 33023 is one of five 737-800 freighters in SolitAir’s fleet. It operates two 737-800BCFs and two 737-800BDSFs and has one 737-800BCF on wet lease from ASL Airlines Ireland. SolitAir aims to grow its fleet to as many as twelve freighters by yearend. It has been an eventful summer for SolitAir. The carrier last week received its Third Country Operator certificate from the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority, clearing it to begin operations in U.K. airspace. And on July 23, SolitAir launched a flight to Bucharest, Romania (OTP), with the 2004-vintage unit 34014. This was the carrier’s second new route to Europe in as many months, following the addition of Sofia, Bulgaria (SOF), to its freighter network. SolitAir could not be reached for comment by publication time.
