Dronehub plans entry into U.S. market

Poland-based drone developer Dronehub plans to enter the U.S. market after its award of a $500,000 grant from the Genius NY tech incubator program, which is backed by the state of New York. Dronehub intends to certify its plan to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone missions throughout the U.S. by 2023, the company told Cargo Facts , but noted that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification process would be long and complicated. (Photo/Dronehub)[/caption] The drone manufacturer and artificial intelligence software company plans to build a space at Griffiss International Airport (RME) in Rome, N.Y., where it will demonstrate its technology to potential U.S. clients as soon as Q1 2023. Dronehub’s drone deploys from the container, or “hub,” which charges the drone and can replace its batteries in just two minutes, and which keeps the drone in a climate-controlled environment when not in use. The drones themselves are designed to perform a variety of missions, collect data and operate autonomously. Once deployed, the startup’s “Drone in a Box” cargo drones have a range of 15 km and can carry up to 5 kg and feature LiDar, radar and FLIR sensors, according to Dronehub. The company is currently working to become licensed in the U.S. and hopes to complete business registration by yearend. By payload lift capacity, the Dronehub cargo drone is similar to Amazon’s MK27 and MK30 , two drones that the e-commerce giant hopes to deploy in select U.S. regions by the end of this year and in 2024. The Dronehub model is also similar to Drone Delivery Canada’s Sparrow drone , which can carry 4 kg of cargo, and Wingcopter’s 198, which can carry 6 kg of cargo .
