Big players in the air cargo industry made several key appointments in March. Penseel to lead Delta Cargo as president [caption id="attachment_57142577" align="alignright" width="281"] Peter Penseel[/caption] Peter Penseel will join Delta Air Lines as senior vice president and president of Delta Cargo , effective June 1. Rob Walpole , who led Delta Cargo as vice president for more than three years, stepped down in February and is a managing partner at Treeline Performance Partners . Penseel has more than three decades of experience in the logistics industry, including stints in the air cargo and freight forwarding sectors, according to a March 20 release from Delta . He joins Delta from Ceva Logistics , where he was the chief operating officer of its airfreight division. While at Ceva, he spearheaded the launch of in-house cargo capacity, and in 2021 was named Cargo Executive of the Year by Air Cargo World , now Air Cargo Next . He also held leadership positions at Qatar Airways Cargo , DHL Global Forwarding and UTi Worldwide . Seco-Koppen to helm Cargo iQ [caption id="attachment_57142573" align="alignright" width="201"] Marie Seco-Koppen[/caption] Air cargo quality standards group Cargo iQ announced that Marie Seco-Koppen will become executive director in May, replacing Lothar Moehle, who is retiring in June after 50 years in the industry. Seco-Koppen brings more than 20 years’ experience in the air cargo industry and joined Cargo iQ from consultancy Im3pact AG , Cargo iQ leaders said in a news conference on March 13 at the World Cargo Symposium in Hong Kong. Seco-Koppen began her career in 2001 in cargo flight operations in freight forwarder Panalpina ’s gateway in Luxembourg, before moving to work on the company’s software. She became global airfreight process digitalization manager at Panalpina in 2014. She chairs the Cargo iQ Master Operating Plan Working Group. New Chapman Freeborn presidents for APAC, IMEA regions [caption id="attachment_57142569" align="alignright" width="221"] Alain Champonnois[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57142574" align="alignright" width="192"] Mark Thibault[/caption] Freight forwarder Chapman Freeborn , part of Avia Solutions Group , appointed Mark Thibault as president of the Asia Pacific region and Alain Champonnois as president of the India, Middle East and Africa region as the company looks to expand its presence in both areas. Thibault has been in business aviation for 40 years, holding business, quality, safety and senior management roles in the Middle East, Asia and the United States, according to a March 5 release from Chapman Freeborn. He was founder and chief technical officer at Crew Chiefs , managing director at T3 Aviation Group , chief operating officer at Hongkong Jet and chief executive at MJets . Champonnois joins Chapman Freeborn having held senior positions in business aviation for more than 25 years. He was commercial director at Royal Jet , vice president of aircraft sales in the Middle East at Jetex and general manager and vice president of fixed base operator and aircraft maintenance at Jet Aviation . Warren to chair BIFA’s Sustainable Logistics Policy Group [caption id="attachment_57142581" align="alignright" width="183"] Sam Warren[/caption] Sam Warren , sustainability manager at logistics firm Woodland Group , has become the first chair of the British International Freight Association ’s (BIFA) Sustainable Logistics Policy Group. The policy group, established in 2023, aims to identify and report on environment-related issues affecting supply chain operations and those that may do so in the future, according to a March 13 release from BIFA. Before working for Woodland Group, Warren was the environmental and sustainability officer for Chelmsford City Council. “Environmental and sustainability issues are not new,” Warren said in the release. “Over time, the environmental agenda within freight and logistics has developed. Whilst the focus is often about carbon emissions, there are other wide-ranging generic issues.” Jettainer names Riekert as chief commercial officer [caption id="attachment_57142584" align="alignright" width="230"] Thorsten Riekert[/caption] Unit load device management company Jettainer named Thorsten Riekert as its first chief commercial officer, according to March 6 release from the company. Riekert will be responsible for Jettainer’s commercial strategy, focusing on advancing the company’s global growth. Riekert, who joined Jettainer in 2015, has helped expand Jettainer’s customer network and product offerings, according to the release. Before Jettainer, he worked for Lufthansa Group . “Riekert has played a central role in Jettainer’s management team, demonstrating outstanding commitment and profound aviation and market knowledge,” Jettainer Chief Executive Thomas Sonntag said in the release. “His contributions have significantly enriched our global network and product portfolio.” Kale appoints HR chief [caption id="attachment_57142585" align="alignright" width="178"] Zulekha[/caption] Technology provider Kale Logistics Solutions has named Zulekha global chief of human resources. With more than 17 years’ experience in HR, Zulekha is focused on digital HR solutions, according to a March 20 release from Kale. “Kale is an agile tech organization and digitization is in our DNA, so it is natural for HR to embrace digital tools,” Zulekha said in the release. “Our workforce includes the new generation that requires a different level of engagement and digitalization will empower us to design and implement processes that will be easy and convenient to use to serve employees across diversified demographics.”
