People: Executives rising in air cargo

Several companies in the air cargo industry have made key appointments in the past several weeks. Below is a selection of those announcements. Lamar to steer sustainability at AIT [caption id="attachment_57138474" align="alignright" width="230"] Chelsea Lamar[/caption] Chelsea Lamar has taken on the newly created role of vice president of global sustainability at AIT Worldwide Logistics . She will lead the company’s sustainability initiatives to further its goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2035, according to a company release last month. She reports to Ray Fennelly , AIT’s executive vice president and chief information officer. A 2022 Women in Smart Energy Award winner, Lamar has more than a dozen years of experience in sustainability strategy development and execution. She has implemented pilot programs for electric vehicles and renewable fuels, introduced energy efficiency initiatives to Illinois public schools and launched sustainability programs across more than 200 facilities, according to the release. She previously worked at Reyes Holdings and Navigant . “It’s an exciting time in the transportation logistics industry because there are so many opportunities to collaborate across the supply chain,” Lamar said in the release. “From electric vehicles and alternative fuels to technology solutions, optimizing routes and using digital platforms for enhanced resource management, we will continue pursuing a variety of strategies to attain meaningful carbon emissions reductions.” Moore to lead UPS Airlines [caption id="attachment_57138471" align="alignright" width="197"] Bill Moore[/caption] Bill Moore became president of UPS Airlines , effective Oct. 1, and will manage UPS ’ global air operations as well as UPS Worldport, the company’s global air hub in Louisville, Ky. A 30-year UPS veteran, Moore was previously president of UPS Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering , where he was responsible for ensuring the airline ran smoothly, with a focus on safety, regulatory compliance, fleet reliability and aircraft performance, according to a UPS release. Moore “brings a wealth of knowledge to the position,” Nando Cesarone , UPS executive vice president and president U.S., said in the release. “We’re confident his excellent track record leading our aircraft maintenance and engineering teams will serve him well in ensuring we remain a global leader in safety and performance.” Jim Joseph , the airline’s former president, has taken a new role, advancing the company’s Better and Bolder strategy. Bessiere joins Seko leadership team [caption id="attachment_57138488" align="alignright" width="221"] Maxime Bessiere[/caption] End-to-end global logistics firm Seko Logistics appointed Maxime Bessiere as its chief commercial officer in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region last month. He replaces one of the four founders of Seko’s U.K. division, David Emerson , who plans to step down from the company Dec. 31. In this role, Bessiere is responsible for driving sales growth, vertical market development, account management, solution design, implementation, corporate marketing communications, strategic tender pricing, sustainability and commercial operations in the EMEA region as well as the United Kingdom and Ireland, according to a release from Seko. He joins Seko after nearly five years at Kerry Logistics and 11 years at Geodis . “I’m extremely proud of all Seko has accomplished in the last 20 years and have the utmost confidence in Maxime,” Emerson said in the release. “His knowledge of e-commerce as well as traditional freight forwarding will be a significant asset to Seko.” Clark to helm Network Aviation Group [caption id="attachment_57138482" align="alignright" width="211"] Jonathan Clark[/caption] Network Aviation Group has appointed Jonathan Clark as its chief executive officer, effective Jan. 8. Network Aviation Group serves as the general sales agent for more than 30 airlines and sells cargo capacity for its own managed freighter fleet of four Boeing 747s. Clark comes to the company with more than 35 years’ experience in the air cargo industry, having worked previously for Lufthansa Cargo , Qatar Airways , DB Schenker and Cargolux . He was most recently CEO of Air Menzies International . “I am delighted to take on my new role leading the Network Aviation Group, an organization that I have watched grow over the years into a quality driven, customer oriented and much respected airfreight partner,” Clark said in a company release. “With the recent addition of the fourth B747 freighter to the managed fleet, the times ahead are very exciting.” O’Donnell to oversee UK, Ireland for Europa [caption id="attachment_57138489" align="alignright" width="218"] Miles O'Donnell[/caption] Europa Air & Sea , a division of logistics company Europa Worldwide Group , appointed its first general manager for the United Kingdon and Ireland: Miles O’Donnell . To grow its international footprint, the company’s U.K. office has recently increased the number of business development managers, according to a company release last month. O’Donnell has been with Europa for more than 10 years in several roles. He previously worked at Kuehne+Nagel and RH Freight . “Miles’ new role will give him responsibility for both the operations and sales of the division in the U.K.,” Europa Air & Sea Director Angus Hind said in the release. “I’m delighted that Miles will be leading our U.K. team and continuing to drive our ambitious organic growth strategy.” Hermes taps Piper as global sales director [caption id="attachment_57138492" align="alignright" width="190"] Stuart Piper[/caption] Stuart Piper has been appointed global sales director at London-based Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) to spearhead the launch of developments in the Hermes ecosystem of cargo management solutions, according to a company release. Piper brings 27 years of software and solutions experience to HLT, having previously held commercial roles at IBM , SAP and Samsung . “As our ecosystem continues to develop, we have needed to expand our team in order to match this growth, and Stuart represents a tremendous asset to our team given his impressive knowledge of cloud solutions, automation and artificial intelligence,” HLT Chief Executive Yuval Baruch said in the release. “We have completed all the necessary research and development to deliver our most comprehensive and robust managed service to date, and Stuart will be integral to driving uptake across our global customer base.” McMullen to head Intradco Global [caption id="attachment_57138473" align="alignright" width="192"] Charlie McMullen[/caption] Animal transport specialist Intradco Global , a part of Chapman Freeborn and Avia Solutions Group , named Charlie McMullen as chief executive officer last month. McMullen began his career at Intradco in 2011 as a stall manager and in-flight project manager, according to a company release. He became director in 2015, taking over from his father, Eddie McMullen , who established the company in 1987. “It has been a privilege to help develop the Intradco Global product and brand over the last eight years, but the next phase of the journey looks even more exciting,” Charlie McMullen said in a company release. “It is a business that is very close to my heart.”
