Lufthansa adds capacity to CargoAi in pilot program

Lufthansa Cargo has partnered with Singapore-based CargoAi to add capacity to the e-booking platform through a pilot program for marketplace users in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. Users will have access to route and capacity information on all Lufthansa Group airlines and can book general express cargo on Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and SunExpress. “Forwarders and users will have the ability to compare Lufthansa routes and the best applicable live rates with other cargo carriers integrated with CargoAi within the same window,” Matthieu Petot, chief executive at CargoAi, told Air Cargo World . [caption id="attachment_97019" align="alignright" width="373"] (Photo: Lufthansa Cargo)[/caption] The pilot will run for two to three months before Lufthansa goes live globally on the platform’s CargoMART marketplace, according to a recent release. Once CargoAi ensures all technical integrations work seamlessly in the carrier's preferred markets, its capacity will be available to 5,000 freight forwarders across 103 countries, Petot said. The platform allows users to manage booking and spot quote requests for all commodities and includes application programming interface (API) technology that provides tracking information throughout the shipping process. Environmentally friendly bookings CargoAi launched a CO2 calculator tool in its Cargo2Zero solution suite Sept. 29, providing metrics to help forwarders make more environmentally friendly bookings, Petot said. “We are continually perfecting the functionalities on our marketplace,” he said. “We will soon be launching additional features which will make the booking process for forwarders even more intuitive and keep it within the system without having to go outside the platform, directly to an airline, for changes to a booking.” Lufthansa Cargo has been an early adopter of e-booking platforms, joining WebCargo by Freightos in 2018 and Germany-based cargo.one the same year after investing in the platform . Lufthansa became cargo.one’s inaugural launch partner for the platform’s auto-assigned air waybill (AWB) numbers in March, designed to further optimize digital booking processes. In October 2021, Lufthansa Cargo and Australian software solutions company WiseTech Global launched a direct booking API connection between their systems, avoiding third parties altogether.
