Digital Pulse: Cargo.one adds SriLankan Cargo capacity to platform

SriLankan Cargo , a division of Sri Lanka’s national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines , will add its capacity to cargo.one ’s digital air cargo booking platform this summer. Through cargo.one, SriLankan Cargo will provide freight forwarders with access to its network of 37 destinations in 21 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, according to a Feb. 14 release from cargo.one. “Our digital sales progression is now a key driver of our growth and cargo.one is a logical expert to expedite our transition,” Chaminda Perera , head of cargo at SriLankan Cargo, said in the release. SriLankan Cargo is the first South Asian carrier to join cargo.one’s network, according to cargo.one founder and co-Chief Executive Moritz Claussen . Virgin Atlantic Cargo joins WebCargo platform Virgin Atlantic Cargo this month added its capacity to the WebCargo by Freightos digital booking platform. Virgin Atlantic Cargo flies to 30 destinations across four continents, including key locations across the United States, India, China, Nigeria, South Africa and the Caribbean, according to release from Freightos. Virgin Atlantic ranked 45th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of the top freight carriers; the carrier transported 1,214 tonnes of cargo in 2022. “As customer requirements and digital experiences evolve, it’s important for us to work with a platform that has an optimized digital booking process and provides access to the largest number of forwarders with seamless access to our global network,” Virgin Atlantic Cargo Managing Director Phil Wardlaw said in the release. WebCargo has more than 10,000 freight forwarder users and offers digital booking for 45 carriers, including: American Airlines Cargo ; Lufthansa Cargo; Air France KLM Martinair Cargo; Qatar Airways Cargo; Air Canada Cargo; Etihad Cargo; Turkish Cargo; IAG Cargo ; and Nippon Cargo Airlines . “The addition of Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s capacity to WebCargo means that freight forwarders in over 10,000 offices worldwide gain instant, digital access to Virgin’s vast network, including key destinations, such as New York, Los Angeles and New Delhi,” Freightos Chief Revenue Officer Manuel Galindo said in the release. “Global reach is crucial in our current era of supply chain disruptions and Red Sea workarounds .” Dnata replaces diesel GSE vehicles with electric at Schiphol Dubai-based air and travel services provider dnata last month took delivery of 15 electric smart cars — with plans to receive five more soon — to replace all airside diesel vehicles in its fleet at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). (Courtesy/dnata)[/caption] As a result of this transition, part of dnata’s steps to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030, more than 65% of dnata’s 250 pieces of ground support equipment (GSE) in the Netherlands is now electric or powered by solar energy, according to a release from dnata. “The remaining legacy GSE is fueled by 100% hydro-treated vegetable oil biofuel, resulting in a 90% reduction in total carbon dioxide emissions throughout its lifecycle,” the release stated. Dnata provides ground and cargo handling services to 37 airlines in Amsterdam, handling 10,000 flights and moving 550,000 tonnes of cargo annually, according to the release. “We are committed to investing in green equipment and infrastructure to maximize environmental efficiency across our operations,” Jan van Anrooy , managing director of dnata Netherlands, said in the release. “Through close collaboration with our partners, we have promptly leveraged the airport’s new infrastructure by replacing our entire car fleet.” AMS ranked 21st on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with a cargo throughput of 1.4 million tonnes in 2022.
