Digital Pulse: Wiremind to launch SkyPallet 2.0 for freight forwarders

Software-as-a-service provider Wiremind will launch SkyPallet 2.0, a dedicated freight forwarder module, this summer. The SkyPallet platform, which is geared toward carriers, optimizes space calculations in the cargo life cycle to ensure maximum capacity usage and accurate quotes, according to Wiremind. Using feedback from airlines over several years, SkyPallet 2.0 will feature several enhancements, including: Rewriting of SkyPallet’s code base in a new programming language, which will bring faster calculation speeds and more advanced palletization algorithms; Integration of SkyPallet into the company’s CargoStack ecosystem, which will enable deeper integrations and workflow automations; New data points for the palletization engine to use, such as freight status or build characteristics, which will produce more granular results; and A more intuitive user interface. “While SkyPallet has already been integrated to customer systems through its API, it has remained a stateless application relying on external systems to provide shipment and capacity inputs per calculation,” Wiremind Cargo Chief Executive Nathanael de Tarade said in the release. “By incorporating it into CargoStack as part of our version 2.0, we now have the architecture to retrieve and hold all the relevant inputs consumed by the palletization algorithm through what we call a stateful or deep integration with a customer’s core reservation system. “This enables different automated workflows, such as running SkyPallet autonomously in the background, using the booking, flight and aircraft data to recommend outputs back to the airline system, such as the remaining available volume; suggest offloads; and significantly automate the flight release process,” he said. SkyPallet 2.0 has also unlocked new use cases, which Wiremind is exploring with early adopters, de Tarade said. These use cases include: A new module to manage end-to-end special loads processes; Use in-warehouse for build planning and execution; and Aircraft weight and balance capabilities. Wiremind will roll out SkyPallet 2.0 progressively over the next 12 to 18 months, according to the release. Thai Airways adds capacity to WebCargo by Freightos Thai Airways is beginning to add its capacity to the WebCargo by Freightos digital booking platform and forwarders will be able to book and pay for Thai’s air cargo services via the WebCargo Pay feature. In the initial phase, it will add capacity for customers in Australia, Japan, Thailand and the United Kingdom, according to a June 6 release from WebCargo. “By helping forwarders of different sizes easily book and pay for Thai Airways capacity on WebCargo’s platform, we are not only expanding digital access to one of Asia’s largest air cargo networks but also continuing our mission to help evolve how cargo bookings and payments are handled,” Freightos Chief Revenue Officer Manuel Galindo said in the release. Thai Airways ranks 44th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers, flying 1.3 billion cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) in 2022. Other carriers to recently add capacity to the WebCargo platform are: United Cargo ; Singapore Airlines ; and Fits Cargo . Avianca Cargo integrates system with DB Schenker’s Avianca Cargo has integrated its core system, iCargo, with freight forwarder DB Schenker ’s digital infrastructure, according to a May 28 release from the carrier. The integration provides DB Schenker with the ability to manage bookings with the carrier and real-time access to Avianca Cargo data, such as availability, itineraries and rates, according to the release. “This integration marks a significant milestone for Avianca Cargo, becoming the first cargo airline in South America to integrate our [core] system with the system of our esteemed partner, DB Schenker,” Avianca Cargo Senior Vice President Diogo Elias said in the release. Avianca Cargo offers approximately 200 cargo flights per week and serves more than 70 destinations, according to the release. Avianca ranks 40th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 1.4 billion CTKs in 2022. DB Schenker ranks fourth on Air Cargo Next ’s Power 25 list of top freight forwarders, moving 1.6 million tonnes of air cargo in 2022.
