Boeing and Jinan-based MRO STAECO signed a Memorandum of Understanding designating STAECO as a conversion center for the Boeing’s 737-800BCF passenger-to-freighter conversion program. With around 60 orders and commitments for 737-800BCF conversions to date (and the majority of orders coming from China-based carriers), it was apparent early-on that another MRO site would be needed in addition to Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services. Jointly, the two facilities will operate three conversion lines. STAECO is already experienced converting 737 Classics to freighter configuration for PEMCO, and was seen as a likely candidate for the BCF conversion line.
