The number of converted and production freighters currently known to be on order represents more than 30% of the active freighter fleet, raising potentially serious questions about whether all this capacity will find a home, according to Cargo Facts Consulting.
That number, which stood at around 25% a year ago, may be even higher and closer to 50% if some undisclosed and upcoming orders are included, Cargo Facts Consulting believes.
The past twelve months have already seen an extraordinary level of freighter order activity. Most notably, there were around 150 737-800F conversions known to be on order at the beginning of July.
