The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported global sales of semiconductors – a leading indicator for airfreight demand – up 9.3% y-o-y in December to US$29.18 billion, a new record for the month.
For the full year, semiconductor sales were up 9.9% over 2013 to $335.9 billion, also a new record. SIA forecasts that growth will continue in 2015, which is good news for the air freight industry, as semiconductor sales are very closely correlated with air freight volume.
