5 operators start flying first 737-800Fs in H1

Five carriers began operating 737-800 freighters in the first half of 2024, even as softness continued to plague the market. The saturation in the 737-800F segment has led to units entering storage after conversion for want of customers, and it has also meant lower lease rates in some cases. Still, the type continued to make its way into the fleets of new operators around the world. (Courtesy/Air Master)[/caption] Of the five airlines that became 737-800F operators from January through June 2024, two were based in the Asia-Pacific region, two in Africa and one in Latin America. 1. Air Master Air Master is a new airline that received its Egyptian AOC in late February. The carrier has leased a pair of 2006-vintage freighters for its charter operations. A 737-800BCF (34406, ex-Flybondi) arrived in Cairo (CAI) toward the end of 2023 and belongs to BBAM, while Aero Capital Solutions sent a 737-800SF (34408, ex-Comair) to CAI in February. Air Master is the second 737-800F operator in the country after EgyptAir. 2. ASL Airlines Australia ASL Aviation Holdings acquired Pionair in 2023 and renamed it ASL Airlines Australia , saying it would place 737-800BCFs on the AOC. The group sent one of its 737-800BCFs (34797, ex-SpiceJet) to Brisbane (BNE) in February 2024 ahead of registering that aircraft with ASL Airlines Australia , which was completed by late May. Unit 34797 is the first 737-800BCF in Australia. 3. Kenya Airways Kenya Airways doubled its freighter fleet this year with two 737-800SFs joining its two 737-300Fs. The 2002-vintage unit 29884 (ex-Regent Airways) arrived in January, with the 2000-vintage unit 28235 (ex-Caribbean Airlines) following in April. Both freighters are on lease from GA Telesis . 4. Modern Logistics Brazil-based Modern Logistics replaced two of its 737 Classics with two 737-800BCFs (33550 and 33556, ex-Ryanair) on lease from BBAM. The company obtained regulatory approval in February and started flying the 2004-vintage unit 33566 domestically, but intends to use the 737-800BCFs for international expansion . 5. Xiamen Airlines Xiamen Airlines took delivery of its first 737-800BCF at the end of 2023 for its subsidiary, Air Road Logistics . The 2006-vintage aircraft (35044) was part of Xiamen’s own passenger fleet and began freighter operations this year.
