Air cargo industry delivers holiday cheer

There’s no capacity crunch when it comes to delivering season’s greetings. After a tumultuous year for the air cargo industry and the world at large, several players in the logistics field are bringing some much-needed levity into the world with creative holiday e-cards and announcements.

Working alongside a committee of Santa’s elves, Air Cargo World ranks the top 10 e-cards and holiday posts based on their creativity, festiveness, newsworthiness, and how likely they are to spread holiday cheer.

Emirates SkyCargo e-card Emirates SkyCargo’s simple, yet elegant e-card features one of the airline’s 777 freighters as it soars above an urban landscape glittering with seasonal red and green. Sharp-eyed readers will notice an iconic holiday character silhouetted against the full moon. The card proudly declares Emirates SkyCargo’s role in transporting vital goods, such as PPE and the COVID vaccine, throughout the pandemic.

TAP Air Cargo holiday e-card TAP Air Cargo’s creative e-card displays a jet streaking away from the foreground, a half dozen presents tied to the rear of the fuselage and fluttering in the plane’s wake. Both the presents and the jet are decorated in the carrier’s trademark red and green, perfect for the season. TAP Air Portugal recently began operating two reconfigured A330-200s, with the first one given TAP Air Cargo branding.

Atlas Air Worldwide holiday e-card This stylized holiday e-card features four jets pulling a tag-shaped banner through a night sky twinkling with peaceful stars. The banner, which features holiday well-wishes to its readers, contains a subtle snowflake motif that brings the card together. The jets sport the logos of Atlas Air Worldwide’s subsidiaries — Polar and Southern — which operate the aircraft on behalf of integrators like DHL, whose logos are also featured. The logos highlight the operator’s express operations, which will continue to run throughout the holiday season.

Avianca Cargo holiday e-card Colombia-based Avianca Cargo’s message on its Christmas e-card is very much on point; with the greatly reduced belly capacity on offer for much of this year, it’s no surprise even Santa has been affected. The image features Santa’s bag of gifts flying atop one of Avianca’s A330 freighters, against a red background.

Cathay Pacific Airways’ happy holidays video Moving beyond the realm of virtual cards, Cathay Pacific created a full 10-second video featuring three of the airline’s jets decked out in seasonal attire. While one of the planes is crowned with blinking holiday lights, another sports reindeer antlers and a bright red nose cone, and the third is decked out in a jaunty Santa hat. The short video’s animated touches increase the cheeriness rating, according to our elves, allowing the animated card to place relatively high on the list.

Cargolux “Season’s Greetings” video Luxembourg-based Cargolux also sent its social media followers a video to celebrate the season this year. The 30-second video features the airline’s now-famous “not without my mask” Boeing 747, which displays the nominal phrase along its fuselage. The video’s minimalist aesthetic and classy seasonal background music wrap the message up in a bow.

DHL Express poem with CEO Greg Hewitt DHL Express U.S. went all-out this year, composing an original poem that’s a take-off of Clement Clark Moore’s “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The poem, read by DHL Express U.S. CEO Greg Hewitt, praises the good work the integrator’s essential employees consistently provided throughout the COVID pandemic. The video concludes with Hewitt urging viewers to remain safe this holiday by wearing masks in public places and washing their hands, a message that remains relevant even as COVID vaccines roll out, adds Air Cargo World’s team of elves.

Crane Worldwide Logistics’ “Logistics of Santa” Crane Worldwide Logistics got creative on its website and outlined the incredible logistical feats Santa Claus achieves each and every Christmas Eve, and presenting some useful statistics. According to the release , Santa makes more than 600,000,000 individual stops during just one night. That means he stops 25 million times per hour, the release continues, or 400,000 times per minute. The release concludes with a holiday card wishing readers a happy holiday and featuring a reindeer with the Crane Worldwide Logistics logo as his luminous nose.

American Airlines Cargo poem and 5,000th cargo-only flight The carrier is the second on our list to parody Moore’s poem , this time not just in the spirit of the season but to celebrate their 5,000th cargo-only flight, which will depart from London (LHR) and land in New York (JFK) on Christmas Eve. The recorded reading of the poem also features various members of the American Airlines Cargo team set against a charming fireside background.

Lufthansa Cargo’s request for donations This holiday season, Lufthansa Cargo is helping raise donations for families experiencing poverty in Kenya, according to a post on its LinkedIn page . The donation drive, which is run by Cargo Human Care, asks donors to give either 5 or 60 euros. The smaller amount will purchase a chicken for a family in need, while the larger donation will pay for a food package capable of feeding a family for a month. Air Cargo World’s resident elf team says the call to generosity is very much in the spirit of the season, and pushes this announcement to the top of our list.
