ASL adds 737-400F to French subsidiary

ASL Aviation Holdings has taken redelivery of a 737-400SF (25180, ex-Cardig Air), on lease from Luxembourg-based Vallair [FAT 005238]. The aircraft has been placed with the group’s ASL Airlines France subsidiary.

Unit 25180 was originally delivered in passenger configuration to Spanish airline Futura in January 1992. In 2009, it joined the fleet of Indonesia-based Sriwijaya Air until it was taken out of service in 2015. The aircraft was then converted by Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) at the Commercial Jet facility in Dothan (DHN), AL, and redelivered to Vallair in February 2017.

In May 2018, unit 25180 was redelivered to Indonesian carrier Cardig Air, but not for long. Five months later, it was repossessed by Vallair and parked in Montpellier (MPL), with Cardig Air seemingly having terminated all operations altogether. This was the only 737-400F in the Cardig Air fleet, which also consisted of a number of 737-300Fs. For now, the fate of the two remaining 737-300Fs still registered with Cardig Air (23258 and 23499) is unclear.

Returning to ASL Airlines France, the carrier now operates a fleet of two 737-300Fs, two 737-300QCs and seven 737-400Fs. In September 2019, the ASL group added another 737-400SF (25773, ex-Yamal Airlines) to its Irish subsidiary ahead of the peak period.
