Cargolux acquires CargoLogicAir 747

A 747-400F previously operated by U.K.-based CargoLogicAir (CLA) has found a new owner in Cargolux, bringing the Luxembourg-based carrier’s all-747 fleet back to thirty units [FAT 005335].

According to the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority, the aircraft (35170, ex-AirBridgeCargo) was deregistered Feb. 19. It was parked in Leipzig (LEJ) on Dec. 30, and brought to Sharjah (SHJ) on Jan. 25, then ferried to Luxembourg (LUX) on Feb. 14. The aircraft was originally delivered to now-defunct Chinese carrier Jade Cargo in 2006.

Cargolux told Cargo Facts that the new addition is a replacement for the older unit 27503, which it retired at the end of 2019, and brought to Kansas City (MCI) for storage in January. That aircraft was first delivered to Cathay Pacific in 1995, and joined the Cargolux fleet in 2015.

Cargolux, which now has a fleet of fourteen 747-8Fs and sixteen 747-400Fs, is known to have taken advantage of opportunities to acquire additional aircraft. Just last year, the airline took three 747-400Fs (35232, 35234 and 35236) from ASL Airlines Belgium.
