Cargolux launches direct API connection with DB Schenker

Luxembourg-based carrier Cargolux has partnered with freight forwarder DB Schenker to launch a direct application programming interface (API) connection to provide immediate quotes. The program will begin in Cargolux’s Austria, Spain and Portugal offices, with the possibility of further rollout. DB Schenker, a longtime customer, will connect its operating system to Cargolux’s to receive quotes and book freight on board Cargolux flights, according to a Dec. 20 release. The interface will offer dynamic pricing options based on specific requirements such as weight, routing and product type, the release stated. [caption id="attachment_57065634" align="alignright" width="405"] Photo/Cargolux[/caption] “Besides the two customers that have been announced, we have some others connected via API, and we are in talks with others as well,” a Cargolux spokesperson told Air Cargo World , referring to DB Schenker and Swiss forwarder Kuehne+Nagel, who Cargolux partnered with earlier this year. “The API is readily available for any forwarder who wishes to connect.” See also: 60% of bookings to come from digital channels by 2025 “The implementation of API offers customers more choice and flexibility when booking their cargo with us,” Domenico Ceci, executive vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. With digital sales and the utilization of web-based booking platforms seeing mass adoption among major carriers, Cargolux has opted to work directly with forwarders. The carrier does not yet offer capacity on digital booking platforms such as cargo.one, WebCargo by Freightos or CargoAi, according to its website. The API connection is part of Cargolux’s larger sales transformation project, according to the release. In January, the carrier launched a set of APIs for customers following a test with Kuehne+Nagel, which included Cargolux offices in Brussels, Frankfurt, Milan and London, according to an October 2021 release. The online portal allows customers to obtain customized quotes and booking for ad hoc shipments and regular allocations. Other carriers to utilize APIs for booking include Etihad Cargo , which partnered with CargoAi for its API in July 2021, and Finnair Cargo and Air Canada Cargo , which both began using WiseTech Global, CargoWise’s API, in September. Cargolux ranked No. 8 in Air Cargo World ’s most recent Freight 50 ranking of the top cargo carriers, based on 2021 tonnage. DB Schenker ranked No. 4 in Air Cargo World ’s latest Power 25 ranking of the world’s top freight forwarders, based on 2021 tonnage.
